it's Christmas again

And I wonder what Santa will bring me this year.

At the moment one present I can expect is a vitamin B12 injection delivered not by Father Christmas, but by my district nurse.  Ho ho ho...

But you know what?  I don't mind at all.  I didn't mind going into hospital yesterday for my 4 weekly bone strengthening infusion (or even the 5 holes left in me while trying to find a vein to inject the stuff into me).

I don't mind all this because I'll be spending Christmas at home.

So even though I may not get all the toys I asked for (or any of them for that matter!) I'm happy.

But as I reflect on my happiness, I think it's important to spare some thoughts for the many people who won't be spending Christmas at home with loved ones.  Many people I know have to work over the holidays to provide essential services.  For instance the stem cell transplant unit at Singleton Hospital carries on as usual as there are patients there going through what I went through back in July.  Merry Christmas indeed.

There will also be those who have no family or friends and will be spending Christmas alone. At a time when the whole world seems to be celebrating this must be doubly difficult.  Also there are those who have no home to go to at Christmas.  What that must be like God only knows.

I know it seems trite and crass to ask you to spare a though for those less fortunate, but I feel it's still a valid request and I know I'll stop and think and be thankful for what I've got.
