retirement

I got a letter from work this morning.

It thanked me for my 32 years service and wished me a long and happy retirement.  I'm retiring on ill health grounds so I too am hoping for a long retirement.

Although I haven't been in work since last October, and it was me who instigated my retirement, it still feels strange to think I shan't ever sit at my desk again, and I feel sad that I shall never be involved in the cut and thrust that my job offered.

Whoever takes over from me is inheriting a fantastic job.

Don't get me wrong.  There were moments when i wished I could just walk away.  But they were few and far between and in the main I really enjoyed myself.

I now face having to go in to work to say goodbye to everyone and to collect my personal possessions.  It won't be easy, but then again nether was my job.

If it had been I wouldn't have enjoyed it half as much.

  1. Bittersweet indeed. At least you had a job you loved and fond memories.

  2. You will be missed Nick but you're starting a new chapter in your life. I enjoyed all the times we worked together and got some great memories. We had some really good laughs. Sometimes when things turn out a particular way it seems like it's the end of the world and you can't imagine how you are going to get through it. You've gone through so much in the last year and you've proved over and over again how strong and determined you are. Keep looking forward but keep in touch with everyone. You promised to meet us all for lunch and I'm holding you to that!
