the 5 phases of growing up with sport

It’s Wimbledon time.  Yay.

I’ve always loved watching Wimbledon.  I can remember watching it with my mum when I was very small.  Then I tried to emulate my heroes (Jimmy Connors, Ilie Năstase, John McEnroe) when I was physically able to.  Then there’s the stark realisation that you’re too old.

Anyway, it got me thinking and I came up with the following phases of watching tennis and I realised that it pretty much mirrors life.

1      childhood: Oooooh that looks exciting, mum can I have a go?  His mum looks really nice

2      adolescence: I could do that.  His sister looks really nice

3      young manhood: I could be as good as him.  His girlfriend looks really nice

4     middle age: I could still do that.  His wife looks really nice

5     old age: I used to be able to do that.  His mum looks really nice
