the morning after

Well, the storm hit.  Tragically with the loss of three lives in Ireland.

No such disaster here, but I got a sharp reminder of how dangerous this weather is.

Dexter and I took a drive down to the Mumbles to get some photographs of the waves there.  So, we drove through the main road along the sea front whilst getting battered by gusts of storm force winds.

On the way back though, a huge one-foot thick branch of a tree had been snapped clean off and was lying in the road right across the carriageway.  Luckily no one was driving, cycling or walking past at the time.  If they had then the consequences could have been tragic.  So, I chastised myself for being so stupid as to venture out and drove straight home instead of seeking out other picture opportunities.

Anyway, as I said, we have been lucky.  No damage to our property other than some plants being destroyed in the garden last night, which considering the ferocity of the winds hitting us is a minor miracle.

These storms hitting the UK are forecast to become much more frequent as our planet's weather changes though.

Fingers crossed that we stay lucky.

I wonder how many lives this lighthouse has saved over the years
