bald heads and pony tails

Back in early 1980, yes almost 43 years ago now, I went to see what should have been my first live music show - Uriah Heep at the Brangwyn Hall in Swansea on their 10th anniversary tour.

It wasn't my first because the previous November I unexpectedly got to see Queen, so Heep were relegated to second place!

Anyway, fast forward to early 2020, and the band announce their 50th anniversary tour.  And as they were scheduled to play in a comfortable all-seated venue I decided to get tickets, and kind of close the circle of live music watching over, for me, 40 years or so.

Of course, we all know what happened next and the show was cancelled (twice) before eventually going ahead last night (11 October 2022) in that same all-seated and very comfortable theatre.

The audience was a little different from the first time of seeing them.  Long-haired, denim and leather clad rock fans were replaced by a much more middle-aged and much less hirsute audience.  But the music was as powerful as I remembered, with that most heavy-rock of all instruments, the Hammond organ, pulsating in the background.

I took my daughter for her first ever live "gig" and although not her taste in music I think she enjoyed herself.  Either that or she was just being polite!  I'm hoping that her taste for live music continues and we can go and see more bands together.

Just as long as I can sit down!

update - we did!!  we went to see Saxon and Diamond Head in the same theatre on 14 November :-)

I managed to film some of the set, and you can witness some legendary rock music from the comfort of your own armchair by clicking below.  ROCK ON!!!

Another extravaganza for your eyes, if you can handle it that is, below - my attempt to become a master woodland photographer (I included this in last week's video by mistake as it only went live today - ooooops!)
