it was all meant to be so simple

When I got diagnosed with multiple myeloma and then put onto a treatment regime it was all meant to be straightforward.  The chemotherapy treatment would reduce the size of the tumour and consequently my para protein levels in my blood.

This started out at 20 and would reduce to 2 before having a stem cell transplant which would then put me in remission.

My chemotherapy treatment would be tablet based and therefore administered at home.

However things did not run smoothly.

I was re-admitted to hospital on 3 separate occasions:

1. crippling back pain
2. suspected blood poisoning - which led to major spinal surgery
3. a blood clot on one of my lungs.

I've spent most of the last 6 months feeling sick, unwell and tired to the extent I've slept at times for over 16 hours a day.

Oh, and my para protein level has only dropped to 4.  I am no longer taking my chemo therapy drugs because there's a chance they caused my blood clot.

So, all in all things have not been straightforward.

But I have a theory.  I'm awaiting a consultation about my stem cell transplant which will hopefully take place in the next couple of months.

My theory is that so much went wrong during my chemo treatment, my transplant has to be straightforward.  I simply cannot be that unlucky twice.

Fingers crossed.
