a matter of life and death

With autumn rapidly approaching, the garden is taking on a new phase, with some plants still flowering. some already dead and others producing seed ready for next year.

Today's image(s) is just such an example, with a still beautifully flowering cornflower displaying next to something I can't identify which has very much gone to seed (much like the writer!).

Fujifilm X-H2, TTArtisans 100mm f2.8 macro
1/80th of a second at f4, ISO 125
tripod, self-timer release
6-image focus bracket stacked in Helicon Focus

After capturing this shot I figured one of my more "artistic" images was called for, so attached my vintage lens and close up filter.  This meant that focus bracketing was nigh on impossible sadly (due to the limits of the lens's focusing capabilities with the filter attached) so I needed to shoot two images and then composite them in Photoshop (oh, the skills!)...

Nikon Z6. Helios 44-2 50mm f2 (Petzval modified)

tripod, self-timer release
2-image composite made in Adobe Photoshop

Apologies but it seems I forgot to upload the video accompanying Saturday's post all about hoverflies.  I've amended the original post for any new readers but in case you're so desperate to watch it, here's the video!

To make up for this really unforgivable error, here's a bonus montage of some early autumn shots...
