pebbles

I used to love getting up before dawn, going down to the coast and photographing the sunrise.  It was my favourite time of day to take pictures.  The peace and quiet of knowing there was no-one else around; the sound of the waves hitting the shore and washing the pebbles; hoping for a lovely sunrise and that elusive perfect light.  So much better than dusk when there were more people around and the light never seemed as good.

But there were also good opportunities to get to the seaside and take pictures at all times of the day, and I particularly enjoyed taking close ups of rock pools and pebbles.  Simple images but no less interesting.  Wondering how the pebbles got there.  All the different colours and rock types.  How old they were and what journeys they’d been on.  The perfect randomness of their arrangement.

Anyway, they taught me that you don’t always need a perfect sweeping vista to get an interesting picture.

  1. Smooth pebbles fascinate me! I've never been lucky enough to live where they are....but I still enjoy them. Lovely picture, Nick!
