looking for the detail

I have recently started using vintage Canon FD lenses on my new cameras.  I bought an adapter to enable fitting and am really enjoying the old experience of slowing right down necessitated by the older kit.

Thankfully my modern cameras have excellent focus “peaking” to enable accurate manual focus.

Anyway, during one of my regular trips to Craig y Nos Country Park in the Swansea Valley, I spotted some dead leaves, left over from winter amongst some bare branches.  The sun was catching them perfectly leaving them almost brightly coloured against the dull background.

There’s no way I could have got an image like this with my wide-angle lens.  I shot the image with my 135mm lens wide open to separate the leaves from the background.  The telephoto lens does an excellent job of compressing the image giving a lovely layered effect.

I wish I’d started using these lenses years ago.

  1. Lovely image! I love DOF images.....can't really do that with point and shoot. More's the pity......
