rocks, water; water, rocks
As Tommy Cooper would say.
Anyway, two images for the price
of one this week – taken at the exact scene that saw the death of my Nikon
D800. I had to go back to exorcise the
ghosts in my mind.
With no great light for sweeping
coastal seascapes, I concentrated on a more intimate scene where the incoming (yes,
I know, but I was very careful!!) tide was being forced between some rocks. The colours of the rocks against the algae
really caught my eye and seemed to illuminate the scene despite the overcast
skies and imminent rain.
I shot two frames: one with a
colourful rock exposed and the other where the incoming wave gave a lovely dizzying
effect.
I shot both with a polarising filter,
so the reflection off the water was minimised, teasingly revealing the pebbles
beneath the waves, along with a three-stop neutral density filter to slow the
shutter speed down to capture the flow of the tide as it lapped around the base
of my tripod. I didn’t have my cable
shutter release. So, I had to time the exposures with the camera’s own self timer - which made things a little tricky with getting the water to be exactly where I
needed it to be when the shutter, erm shut.
