bloody hospitals

I wrote only last week about my upcoming hospital admission for a small heart procedure to fix my irregular heartbeat.

Well, I went there for a pre assessment to discuss the procedure and it seems that because of all the work I've had previously I have to now have a general anaesthetic, and not a local one and moderate sedation which is the norm for this procedure.

This means the operation has been put back to 25 September.

I also need to have specialist blood products on hand in case they're required because of my stem cell transplant.

This has, of course, made me anxious.  I don't like the thought of a general anaesthetic along with the risks involved.

I'm electing to have this surgery and I'm now wondering whether I should go through with it.

More decisions to face.

  1. Someone once told me not to worry about general anesthetic.........I'm quoting, "I promise you, if you die while you're under the anesthetic, you'll NEVER know about it!" Does that help? Me neither.....but the odds are on your side! So there's that. ;)

  2. Oh man...that stinks...I understand your concerns about the anaesthesia... if the skipped beats trouble you you should consider it for sure. Especially because of the increased risk of stroke or pulmonary embolisms(the latter of which almost killed me).

My thoughts are with you...if you need to vent feel free to drop me a line..
