well it is Autumn

Sorry for all the images of leaves.  But at this time of year they are abundant, and I can’t resist taking pictures of them.

This was taken on a rough old Autumn morning at Craig y Nos in between the heavy showers that were falling on Dexter and me.  I liked the leaves floating on the lake, but particularly I liked the dark morning which meant the lake itself was black as you like, making the vibrant leaves really pop against the background.

I exposed the image for the brightest yellow leaf, ensuring the water came across as black as it possibly could.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have my tripod with me, and looking straight down with the lens zoomed out to 120mm it was quite tricky to get a pin-sharp image.  Even boosting the ISO to 1600 I couldn’t get the shutter quite as quick as I’d have liked.  I shot at f8 as well as I wanted reasonable depth of field in the image.

Still, although not a technically proficient image, I think it worthy enough of this blog. I hope you do too.

  1. Amazing image for hand held! If I tried that it would be one big blur! ;)
