the planet, the moon and the tower

NB: this post was written well before the Covid-19 outbreak

Three high up things for this week’s image.

I took a late evening trip to Swansea’s maritime quarter at the end of February.  The docks here were once the world’s busiest when copper was king, and Swansea built its fortune producing the material that lined the bottom of most of the world’s ships.  Hence the phrase “copper bottomed”.

Anyway, I digress.

Long after the docks were firstly bombed during WWII and then latterly declined into total ruin and disrepair as industry collapsed, they became the first in the UK to be reclaimed as housing as the trend for “maritime” living took hold.  It is now a sprawling mass of flats and includes Wales’s tallest building – the Meridian Tower.

Seeing it along with the moon and Venus shining brightly in the night sky was just too good an opportunity to miss.

I attached a "star" filter to the front of my lens.  This amplifies the burst from the lights in the image, adding a little drama I think.

Fujifilm X-T3, Fujinon XF16mm f.4
20 seconds at f8, ISO 160
tripod, self-timed release, star filter

I really like the look of night-time images.  The stark contrast between light and dark makes for pin-sharp scenes.

Lovely.
