way, way outside my comfort zone

I've written before that I know my limits as a photographer.  I can shoot landscapes and that's pretty much it.

Bailey's Jagger
I mean, I dabble with other genres, macro in particular, but I know what I'm reasonably good at and by and large stick to it.

But for the summer months, when landscape photography opportunities are thin on the ground, I do try to broaden my image-making horizons.  It's usually macro, but this summer I decided upon a minimalist project as well as paying tribute to some of my favourite photographers.

Last week it was Irving Penn, but this week I tried my hand at portrait photography and after getting Lisa to pose for me arrived at two images I'm really happy with.

The first is my attempt at iconic British portrait photographer David Bailey's portrait of Rolling Stone Mick Jagger, and my second is a much more natural portrait of my long-suffering wife!

Of course, this post would not be complete without a shameless plug for its accompanying video!
