instagram

I don't really get social media.  Perhaps I'm just too old.

I post some of my images on Instagram.  I think they're images that are worth sharing so quality wise I'm more than satisfied with them.  And then...nothing.  They might get a few likes but they're soon lost in the detritus of old online photos.

Until this image.

It's an old one and not very good.   Subject and composition wise it's ok, but the horizon is off kilter by quite a way and the colours are all wrong.  So wrong in fact I was going to delete it, re-edit it and post a version I was happy with.

But it's been by far my most popular image on there, getting 30-odd likes in the first few minutes.

It's really strange, and I have no idea why it gained more traction than usual.  Oh well, I'm not complaining.

Well, I am actually!

It's frustrating that really good images fall by the wayside while others thrive.  I don't think it's down to the quality of the image, more down to the poster's popularity.

Luckily, I don't gauge the quality of my images by the number of likes they get.  I'd have packed in photography by now if I did.
