I went fully armed this time
Most Monday mornings (pardon the alliteration) Dexter and I take a short scenic stroll (it's catching) through a patch of our local nature. We like to document how things change throughout the year, and there is always something new to see and photograph.
A couple of Mondays ago we were on one of these strolls, when we saw a Tree Creeper. Now, these aren't rare birds by any means, but it is quite unusual to see one on our particular route, and I'd not spotted one in ages.
Of course, I was completely unprepared with no telephoto lens to hand on my camera and so the only memory I have of that moment is lodged (probably temporarily) in my brain.
Fast-forward a week and we're on the same path. Only this time I am prepared. I have two cameras with me, one of which is mounted with my telephoto lens. Arriving at the tree where we saw the little passerine seven days earlier, we set up camp and waited.
And waited.
People were walking past us asking why we were staring at the tree. I had to politely explain the reason to each of them, but my patience was wearing thin.
Eventually we gave up our quest to capture the bird in question, but settled instead for this shot of a far from rare Dunnock or Hedge Sparrow. Beautiful in its own little right, but no climber!

He’s beautiful anyway. We don’t see any sparrows in our little patch of the SE of England 😕. Many many other birds but no sparrows. Yet four miles away in the next village, they’re all over the place!

Dexter is one of my best friends and I’m still anonymous, I don’t get it.
DeleteIn an alliterative mood when you wrote this I see. Well done! 😂
