memories are made of this

I'm at that age now when I feel I have more to look back on than ponder on what's to come and for the past nine years or so as well as writing this blog and then "doing" YouTube, I've also religiously kept a journal so I can jot down my thoughts and deeds pretty well every day.

From time to time I like to dip back into past journals to remember what I was doing on a certain date say five years ago, and I'm always amazed at just how fast time is rushing by.

Anyway, they (it's always they, and I wonder who they are…) say that it's smells that evoke the clearest of memories.  And I experienced this a few years ago when walking into an antique shop in Hay-on-Wye I was instantly taken back to my grandmother's old flat by the sweet perfume I could detect with my nostrils.

But for me, most of my memories are found through images and music; two of the most important things in my life.

ah, the smell of burning electrical componentry!!!

I got into both when at school, and both have helped to document my life, evoking mainly happy but also the odd not so euphoric memories.

Listening to a piece of music I can be instantly transformed back to a concert or sitting in my parent's lounge with my sister's old Dansette record player and then my first proper hi-fi system.

Images of course are far more descriptive of a time and place, but no less evocative of the events leading up to or following their capture.

For my video this week I've curated five musical and five photographic memories.  I had a great time putting it together and if you want to know what they are then of course you'll need to watch the video.  All you have to do is press the link below...
