high key

After a short walk one day last week, I was sat in my garden surveying the scene, and particularly enjoying some new cosmos flowers I'd recently potted up.

And then I was struck with inspiration; or something like that and thought I'd try some high-key style photography to show off the softness of the cosmos's petals.  The execution was reasonably straightforward and basically involved over exposing the entire scene.

And here is the result.  Two images of my most favourite flower.

I then turned my attention to some lovely pale blue campanula in my garden.  This time I softened the foreground by placing a fern frond right in front of my lens, and lightened the background with my trusty white net curtain.
