he doesn't write, he doesn't phone

Last year I told you all about an elephant hawk moth caterpillar we rescued from almost certain death, before providing it with a home to over winter before emerging as a beautiful elephant hawk moth.

Anyway, back in the middle of last month we started to examine his (we decided it was a male, and named him Timothy - get it!) little home more closely for signs of his emergence and got excited when we figured it was imminent.

Timothy's now empty chrysalis :-(

We watched the container diligently until one morning I opened it to be met with an empty chrysalis.  Timothy had "hatched" during the night and flown away.  And all without so much as a single, solitary thank you.  

Moths!  Pah!  They just can't be trusted!!
