When I focus bracket images, I usually do so manually. Take a shot, twiddle my focus ring, take another shot, etc, etc. Even on an auto-focus lens I'll go through this process until I'm happy I've got sufficient images to stack and get a front to back pin sharp picture.
From time to time though I do like to re-familiarise myself with my camera's automated focus bracketing function, as I know one day I'll need to use it in the field and will have completely forgotten the steps needed.
So, just the other day I went and picked some dead flower heads off an osteospermum in my garden, arranged them as attractively as I could and then used automatic focus bracketing to fire off thirty-two frames covering about a one-inch depth of flower / field.
Here's the result:
