that was scary

We've been experiencing quite the drought this year.  In fact, since the beginning of May we've had little in the way of rainfall, and only around thirty minutes of light drizzle overnight in the past six weeks or so.

And with that comes the danger of grass and gors fires.

We live right on the outskirts of the city, and opposite our house is just around a mile of field and scrubland until the next town appears.  And on Saturday it caught fire - a lot!

Two fire engines were quickly on the scene, but within an hour this had doubled to four before a fifth appeared later.  The gors comes dangerously close to some homes further down our street and at one stage there was a concern for some of the properties (see below) and a very real fear of evacuation.

It took a good few hours to bring it under control, and a fire engine remained opposite our house until around 10pm before deciding it was safe enough to depart.

We really, really (really) do need a week or so of rain right now.  No, really!  Anyone know of a dance I could do?
