the colour of summer

Back in the late spring I planted four sunflower seeds.  Only one germinated but I then nurtured it and watched it grow.  I picked out any side shoots and smaller flower heads so the main one could get as big as possible.

It grew and grey to around 7 feet in height and on 3 August it opened.  Yay!

This morning I got a lovely shot of a bee gorging itself on the flower's pollen, with a background of bright yellow petals and a blue, cloudless sky and figured if there's an image that screams "SUMMER" more, then I've not seen one!

Not this week at least.
