sleepless in Swansea
It's 3am and I find myself lying wide awake with Supertramp's "Dreamer" going through my head.
When I started on my chemo regime, it meant that twice out of every 3 weeks I would have to take a large dose of steroids.
The doctors warned that this would have 3 side effects:
- I would become hyperactive (yes while lying on my back with 2 metal plates inserted in my back I could barely believe this)
- I would eat a lot (check)
- my sleep might become disrupted.
Up until the last couple of nights I haven't had many problems sleeping apart from the odd night in hospital (one of which was down to a mad woman and not the steroids). But the last 2 nights have seen me awake at 4am and 2am respectively.
This means that I will sleep a lot during the day and consequently less at night. I could fight it and stay awake but my day is so chock full with excitement that this is not possible and I inevitably fall asleep during the afternoon and wake for dinner at about 7pm.
This vicious circle in turn means I wake earlier in the morning.
Perhaps Alice Cooper's "Welcome To My Nightmare" would be a more appropriate ditty to have going throughly head right now
