bonkers I know...
…but hear me out / indulge me.
I wrote recently about my understanding (or
rather lack thereof) of theoretical physics and how therefore to my mind it was
all made up.
But my mind has been changed. Why?
Because during another of the long days I spend with only myself and a
dog for company I started wondering again whether we are alone in the universe
or are one of many intelligent civilisations in the cosmos. If we are the latter, then it follows that we
must then ponder what our cosmic partners look like and how they behave.
There is a strong belief among some scientific boffins
that artificial intelligence has taken over more advanced planets than ours,
with the robots becoming cleverer than their one-time programmer masters, and
effectively reversing roles and taking over from any naturally evolved extra-terrestrial
lifeform. Think Terminator and you’re getting
there.
But what if alien civilisations have become so
advanced that they no longer exist in any tangible, touchable or recognisable
form? What if they have evolved to such
an advanced state that their existence is on a purely spiritual level.
Is this as nuts as it sounds?
Looking back at the history of our planet, we
sort of bumbled along for thousands of years, evolving slowly with the only real
major breakthroughs to show for our time here on the Earth being fire and the
wheel.
Then, all of a sudden and from nowhere, we
gathered real intellectual pace. Taking
to the skies and, within 70 years of that first primitive powered flight,
riding rocket propelled spaceships to the moon and then developing a permanent manned
station in near space.
How did this happen? Luck?
Chance?
Or maybe some benevolent spiritual alien race
with knowledge far, far beyond ours decided one day that it would start to drip
feed that knowledge to us; selecting certain individuals to somehow inspire to
make the absolutely huge, quantum even, leaps to where we are today. Is that so unlikely to be insane? Well, it’s no more “out there” than some of
the other theories about our universe.
Anyway, it’s my theory. And if you don’t like it, you can give me
your clothes, your boots and your motorcycle.
You've been watching Georgio Tsoukalos from Ancient Aliens again haven't you......? ;)
