old times and old friends
I recently met up with an old
cycling friend of mine (Gerald) and we got chatting about racing in the 80s and
90s, the bikes we used and the friends (and enemies!) we made.
Talk came around to an old
Peugeot frame I used to use. It was a
professional standard frame and had once belonged to a dear mutual friend and exceptionally
talented rider who sadly died in the 80s.
I always regretted not keeping the frame, not just because it was very
quick, but also because of its link to Simon.
Imagine my delight then when
Gerald, who collects bikes and bike bits like no one else I know, told me that he
had acquired the Peugeot frame and had wondered whether it was Simon’s and my
old frame. I was able to confirm that it
was, and promptly bought it.
I’m really happy to have the
frame hanging up in my garage but now I’m undecided about what to do with
it. Do I have it restored and build it
up with brand new parts, or do I leave it as it is and try to source period
componentry to put on it? Obviously the
first option is the easiest but I don’t think that would be doing the best by
the frame. After all I do not intend
riding it so perhaps some sort of museum piece would be more appropriate.
Whatever, I’m delighted to have
the frame back in my possession. It
reminds me of some great times with great friends.
And it reminds me of Simon.
It was meant for you to be reunited! I think you should restore it to it's original state. (Just my HO)
