storms

I watched an excellent programme on the TV yesterday looking at detailed film and photographs taken by storm hunters in the USA.

I found myself wishing that I could take such excellent and dramatic images, but also glad that we very rarely experience such devastating storms here in the UK.

Anyway, my mind was taken back to two very stormy days at my favourite location - the Mumbles.  On both occasions I was lucky to get back to my car just in time to avoid an absolute soaking and battering from huge hailstones that sounded like they were denting my car's roof, but managed to fire off a couple of quick snapshots before my escape.

I wish I'd been braver and set my camera up on a tripod as the images are not as sharp as I'd have liked but hey-ho; that's the price you pay for staying dry I guess!  I hope you like the pictures.

  1. Great pictures! But the name of the place takes the cake! The Mumbles!! There must be a story behind that name.....?

  2. It's odd, but because we lived there (or close by) we took the name for granted and I've never really thought of it before. But you're right. It is funny. I'm going to look it up...

  3. Two options. Either it's from the French, les mamelles, meaning breasts or the Celtic word meaning the same (cos there are two hills that run down to the sea). Pathetic I know but there it is! 😞
