art

For as long as I can remember we have collected pieces of art.  Mostly some prints by artists we like but also some ceramic bits and pieces.

Before anyone reading this thinks that our house would be a prime place to burgle, I’d like to point out that nothing we’ve bought is of any great monetary value.

Anyway, we decided we need one more painting to go above our bed.  Something restful and serene. and during a trip to Hay on Wye today spotted a lovely landscape of the Wye Valley in an art shop there.  And then we realised it was in fact a photograph.  A very large photograph – about A0 in size.

So, we thought that instead of buying something new, we could either select one of my favourite old photos, or (this was our final decision) commission myself to take a new one.  Then we could get it enlarged, printed and framed at the fraction of the cost of buying anything.

So, now we are wondering what scene we’d like.  I can’t make the trek to the waterfalls any more so they’re out of the equation.  A mountain or seascape are the favourites then, and it’s now down to the process of scouring my old note books and the internet for that scene we’d both like before I have to haul myself out of bed at some unearthly hour to catch the perfect light that is never quite perfect and get that perfect shot that is never quite, well, perfect.

We’ll probably end up buying a painting.

something peaceful like this should do the trick

  1. Oh no! Don't buy one! It would be so much more personal if it was one of YOUR photographs!
