looking back
This morning I decided to look
back at the very first serious photo I took after going digital and taking
photography back up after years without a proper camera.
It’s a photo of Swansea Bay and
Mumbles Head taken from the promenade on Swansea waterfront at sunset in
September 2010.

I then compared it to the latest
landscape photograph I took at Mumbles to see if and how far my skills with a
digital camera and editing had come. (By
the way, we’ve chosen this image to have printed for our bedroom wall.)

Back in 2010 I was all about
using filters and long exposures as it was so easy to do with a digital camera
as opposed to film. I rattled off image after image just because I could in the
hope of getting one right. Now, however,
I shoot much more like I used to with a film camera, relying on good light and
technique over fads and gadgets, and being much more careful to compose a scene
properly rather than crop an image on my computer later.
I hope you agree that the difference between the two in terms of composition and technique is like night and day. If it isn’t then I guess I’ve wasted 7 years of my life trying to take better photographs!
Gee, I think they're both pretty awesome....but then I'm not a REAL photographer so what do I know.... ;)
