They say that dogs have a sixth sense.  A kind of ultra-perception.

And that’s absolutely true.

Dexter (my wonderful dog) proves the theory beyond question.  He knows when I’m feeling unwell often before I do. He tiptoes around me and is very gentle, just lying gently by my side.  When I’m feeling down, he immediately gets one of his toys to play with and once the playing is done, he snuggles and tucks himself into me so tightly I wonder how he can breathe.

When it comes time for bed, which is usually quite early for me, he’s already waiting on the bed for me to get there.  If I’m out without him (which isn’t very often) Lisa says he just waits in the hallway for me and gets really excited in the minutes just before I get home. It’s like he senses I’m close.

no words needed!!

Dexter and I have been together almost permanently since we had him.  I was off work with the start of my cancer when we first brought him home, and barring stays in hospital we have been constant companions ever since.

Although he is definitely a “family” dog, everyone agrees that he’s my dog in reality.

And what a wonderful feeling that is.

  1. Love this shot of the two of you...su,s up your relationship perfectly. He must have been so sad during your absence. Our pets do have a sixth sense about us and our well-being.
