how, just how?

Just a few days ago I had to get a new laptop – the second one this year.  Lisa’s laptop had packed in after 6 years of service.

Well, I say packed in, it was still working but was outside the remit of Apple’s updating programme, so I felt it safer she had something more secure for her online banking, etc.

After setting the new machine up, we started watching a film “online”.  And this made me wonder how the actual heck does all this work?  I mean, there are no wires, no aerial, no nothing.  We sat on our bed in the middle of our home and it all just worked.

HOW?!?!

From seemingly nowhere we can watch something, anything on a device that even 30 years ago would have been seen as extremely futuristic and dare I say other worldly.  We can access any information we want and contact anyone, anywhere at the tap of a mouse.  It truly is magical.

an hour ago this was in PC World in Swansea, now it's a portal to the whole world

I guess that younger generations just take all this for granted.  Perhaps they have little appreciation or desire to discover how something works.  For them, it just does.

For me though, there is still that wonderment and questioning every time I use a computer.
