my all-time favourite cycling photograph

For as long as I can remember I've loved the sport of cycling.

Back in my youth though, coverage of the sport in the UK was woeful.  We might get a 10 minute synopsis of the Tour de France each July but that was pretty much it.

So, most of my cycling knowledge was gained through looking through old and new magazines.  I loved the imagery of the sport, particularly the photo's depicting the pain on rider's faces as they raced across cobbles, through mud or up an alpine col.

But my favourite image is none of those.  It's of an unidentified rider from the late 60's or early 70's being handed a bottle of what looks like wine by a fan.  It resonates with me as it reminds me of Lisa handing up bottles at the roadside during some unfeasibly long race.

I'm sure she enjoyed every moment!

  1. It always amazes me that a whole story can be told in a single 'snapshot' like this. :D
