it's all in the timing see

If you've read this blog for any length of time then you'll know I love a coastal photograph.

If you read my landscape photography course you'll also know that timing is absolutely vital to get a really good image.

So, with the knowledge of the tide times for Ogmore Beach logged safely in my brain, I headed off there (safely of course) just after lockdown ended.

The image I had in mind was simple.  A retreating tide weaving beautiful pattern around a large rock on the edge of the sandy shelf.  A 2 second or so exposure should nail it - wispy white waves (practicing my alliteration there!!) curving around the rock would look lovely.

I got there just in time.  I set my camera up and watched as a few waves rounded the rock before waiting for that perfect wave to capture.

It never came!  The waves I watched were literally the last ones to reach the rock!

I was so happy that I think I might have used a rude word.  Ten times.

Still, here's the rock.
