plastique fantastique

You all know how much of a music lover I am.  And also how much a collector I am too.  So, it stands to reason that I should collect music.

And I do.

I used to spend all my pocket money on records.  Usually an album / LP and just sometimes a 7" single.  Then, when compact discs became all the rage I started buying those instead.  In fact, at one time very few records were even released on vinyl so that was never an option.  And then there came streaming, with the thought of actually owning a physical piece of recording media completely alien to the younger generation.

pure bliss

I gave many of my records away, and amassed quite the collection of CDs.  But now things have changed, and vinyl is very much my preferred choice of music media.  Most artists now release their latest, erm, release on vinyl (and even cassette sometimes!) and second hand records that you couldn't give away a few years back now fetch stupid money.

And this is a shame.  People are buying them just to say they have the record, and not even actually listen to it.  Maybe they don't even own a record player or turntable to be able to play it.

I actually prefer the sound quality of a CD.  But I love holding a record sleeve, looking at it and the artwork on it and, if they're printed, following along with the lyrics.  There's just something magical about the larger vinyl format, especially when it's a gatefold sleeve.  The very height of vinyl luxury.

Anyway, this week on my YouTube channel has been "music week" and the following two videos are glimpses into my single and LP record collection.  If you're of a particularly nosey disposition then these are right up your street.  Who wouldn't want to know what records someone else owns?

I know I would!

I'm taking a short break from posting here and from my YouTube channel - only for a couple of weeks - and will hopefully be back here on 4 April.  I hope you don't mind but I need a rest, and to just recharge the old batteries!
