I started to lapse...

… back into bad macro photography habits.

I spent a fair while over the last two years trying to develop my macro photography skills, and in particular trying to move on from taking mere record shots to taking more "interesting" story telling images. Well, that was the plan anyway.

So, less taking images from above an insect or flower to getting down to their level and trying to "enter" their environment, and making sure that environment along with the background complemented the subject.

And by and large I was getting quite happy with my efforts but recently I feared I was just getting back into taking those record shots so made a new, concerted effort to get back away from that.

And I got a few shots that I am really rather pleased with.  Here is what I think are the best three:

Nikon D700, Micro Nikkor 105mm f2.8G, Raynox DCR250 magnifier
1/250th of a second at f3.5, ISO 200
handheld

Fujifilm X-H2, Laowa 65mm f2.8
1/250th of a second at f2.8, ISO 400
handheld

Nikon D700, Micro Nikkor 105mm f2.8G, Raynox DCR250 magnifier
1/250th of a second at f3.5, ISO 200
handheld

If you'd like to know more about the Raynox magnifier I used to take the first and third images above, then simply "tune in" to my YouTube channel and watch the video below:
