lifesavers

Late last month I spotted a tiny hoverfly crawling across the wooden floor in our conservatory. Rushing into action, I asked my daughter to prepare a solution of sticky sugary water on a spoon.  I then scooped up the fly, emptied the water onto a nearby outdoor surface and watched as the tiny creature drank away.

After. few moments and slurps of the life giving tincture, the fly began washing its face and legs before flying off without even so much as a backward glance or a thank you!

Still, I feel we did our bit for nature that day, even if the ungrateful little blighter was probably eaten by a passing sparrow shortly after!
