I've been experimenting with a new focus bracketing technique lately. It involves handholding the camera and moving it slightly forward towards the subject while in continuous high burst and pressing the shutter.
You end up with around 40-50 images focused at various points, and as long as the subject has remained still, the bracketed shots once stacked can look fantastic.
Here is an image of a green sawfly shot in my garden using this exact technique:
