sheer laziness
While I’m
in rant mode…
Probably
the most annoying thing about my illness is my restricted mobility meaning I am
largely confined to a wheelchair for anything but the shortest of walks.
This means
I have a permit allowing me to park in designated parking spaces near stores,
etc. This is a great help to my wife who
has to push me around places, and as she isn’t what you’d call large she is
grateful for any help she can get when it comes to dealing with me!
But I have
now noticed how many able bodied people without any parking permit abuse the
designated spaces and park their cars in them simply because it means a shorter
walk to their destination. How lazy do
you have to be to deprive someone of a facility they really need just because
you can’t be bothered to walk a few extra yards?
I had to
visit my local hospital last week for a routine appointment. Near to the entrance there are around 10
spaces designated for disabled permit holders.
They are clearly marked as such.
But there were none available and on passing the line of cars only 2
were displaying permits allowing them to park there. There doesn’t seem to be any form of
enforcement either which is even more annoying.
I can’t wait until I’m fit enough to hand my
parking permit back because I no longer need it. That day can’t come soon enough. And I’ll enjoy parking as far away as
possible so I can enjoy the walk to wherever it is I’m going.
Good rant. Not sure how to resolve this :-(
ReplyDeleteI found out the hard way the disability isn't always visible so I'm not quite as quick to judge anymore. But I hear ya' when someone abuses the system.
