wild horses

Returning from my rainy trip to the standing stone from last week’s post I spotted two horses grazing in a field with the sun setting directly behind them.

It was an irresistible scene and I wasn’t the only photographer to stop and try and capture it.

It was a very, very difficult scene to expose properly.  It was getting quite dark and the setting sun made it heavily back-lit.  I used a 3-stop graduated filter to retain the detail and colour in the sky while trying to not render the horse as a silhouette.

I think I got it about as “right” as I could.  I just wish the horse would have looked up from his grazing.  I guess he was either peckish or camera-shy!

  1. Nothing so frustrating to a photographer than a camera shy horse! LOL I think this is a better shot than if he was looking up....just my humble opinion...... ;)
