at last

At long last, summer is drawing to an end.

It’s my least favourite season these days.  Long days and short nights are no longer for me now that I spend around 14-16 hours a day in bed and indulging my hobby of landscape photography is harder when the sun rises and sets at extreme times.  I also no longer cope well with warm weather.

Back in my bike racing days I craved the summer, the longer days and the hotter weather.  The hotter it got, the faster I rode, and I could seemingly suffer better than my counterparts.

I could ride for 4 or 5 hours and arrive home with bone-dry kit still smelling of the powder it was washed in!

enjoying the sunshine - that's me in the middle

Nowadays though I really struggle as soon as the mercury rises, and I find myself confined to the shade or even indoors rather than enjoying the sunshine.

Obviously, I am not as physically fit as I used to be, and my illness has a very real impact on my ability to get by.

But there is now light (pardon the pun) at the end of the tunnel as the days get shorter and the sun appears at reasonable hours so I can start to dust my camera and lenses down and get back out doing what I love most – without breaking into a sweat!
