visiting an old friend

Picture the scene.  It’s Friday afternoon, around 3pm, sunset is in around 90 minutes time and the weather starts to look promising.

So, I pack my bag and head out of the door.  But where to go?

After a quick think I decided to head for the Mumbles, around a 40-minute drive away and I’m glad I did.  The lighthouse and the rock it stands on (one of the “Mumbles”) were bathed in late afternoon mid-winter light.  The sort of light that makes a landscape photographer go weak at the knees.

I think you can tell why!

Fujifilm GFX50R, Fujinon GF23mm f4.0
2 seconds @f16, ISO 100
tripod, remote release, Kood 3-stop neutral density filter

Anyway, I wanted to capture the essence of the sweeping waves, so chose a not overly long exposure and waited for the right moment to get the waves retreating over the pebbled beach.

I’ve photographed this lighthouse so many times now, but every time feels like the first time there as there’s always something new to see.  And it’s that promise that keeps drawing me back there; there really is no better place to be.
