the isolation diaries - week fourteen

I hate people.

With lockdown being eased in some places, the warm weather saw hundreds of thousands flock to the seaside with a blatant disregard for social distancing and consequently safety.

And near me in Wales, dozens were involved in a mass brawl at Ogmore-by-Sea, a place I regularly visit to take photographs.  Couple this with similar scenes at Bournemouth on the South Coast no doubt fuelled by that oh so lovely combination of sunshine and lager.

really?
With these actions I really do wonder what is the point of any of the government's measures when people simply ignore them.  It seems that there is no longer a collective responsibility spirit, and a "I'm alright Jack, sod you" mentality is prevalent.

This behaviour simply guarantees that this virus will never, ever go away.

Perhaps though we are seeing natural selection in action.  The terminally selfish will eventually be eradicated by their own stupidity and do what they want mentality.  After all, the rules are only there for everyone else - and we can thank Dominic Cummings for that.

A much more peaceful Ogmore beach

Seriously, all that will happen will be a second, more devastating, spike in infections, hospitalisations and deaths if this continues.

I wrote before that we need to make judgements about what we do in the future as we have to return to some sort of normality.  Flocking to the beach, or inevitably to the pubs when they reopen shortly is not going to help.

It just means that vulnerable people will be stuck indoors even more, unable to get out and enjoy the coast or countryside while it is spoilt by selfish, stupid, hateful people.
