the isolation diaries - week thirteen

Thirteen weeks.  And still no luck.

While in England and Scotland people are allowed to move freely within reason, here in Wales we are still only allowed to travel within five miles of our homes for leisure purposes.

I am now getting absolutely desperate to get out either with my camera or to ride my bike.  Although we are allowed to take exercise, this has to be near our homes and unfortunately my lack of confidence around cycling on busy roads means that I simply can't get out.

My normal routine involves driving to the Neath Valley which since a new adjacent road was built is now largely free of any traffic.  In fact you are unlucky if you actually see a car.  So, for someone like me this is ideal.

Also, there is nothing really within five miles of my home worth photographing.  Trust me, I've looked.  Maybe if it were autumn with falling leaves in the park, or winter or spring time with early morning hoar frosts things would be different.

oh to be free...

And it's not as if there's light at the end of this tunnel as the first minister for Wales has indicated that it'll be at least two weeks before they even consider looking at these restrictions.

Now, I know I've been critical of our rulers for acting in the way they have.  But unfortunately these actions now are akin to closing the stable door after the horse has bolted.  I genuinely worry for my mental wellbeing.

I have considered going out with my camera and, if I'm challenged by the police, explain that I am a professional photographer and need to travel to work.  Somehow though I fear that won't wash with the powers that be and I'll be sent home or, worse, fined for my actions.

It seems there is no way out at the moment.  Literally.
