getting the low down

My favourite use of a wide-angle lens to get low down and close to a subject is no secret to anyone who reads this blog and looks at my images.

I just wish it was a bit easier on my back, that's all!

Anyway, this week's image was shot with my Fujifilm 23mm lens on my medium format camera.  While 23mm might not sound all that wide, on a medium format system it gives a full-frame (or 35mm film) field of view of nearer 18mm.  So wide enough.

My hope is that some time soon Fujifilm will bring out a truly wide-angle lens (a zoom maybe) with a 14-24mm equivalent field of view.  Now, that is something I would buy straight away.

Enough of my ramblings, here's the image:

Fujifilm GFX50R, Fujinon GF23mm f4
1.5 seconds @ f16, ISO 50
tripod, self-timer release
Haida circular polarising filter, Kood 3-stop neutral density filter, Format Hitech 3-stop reverse graduated filter

Aside from the discomfort caused to my spine, the image was quite a tricky one to make.  I needed to polarise the image to remove any glare from the water, use a 3-stop filter and an extended ISO 0f 50 to get just the right motion blur along with a graduated filter to balance the exposure between the ground and bright sky.

Then I had to get back up (no mean feat!!) and put all the stuff away!
