need > want

I've just finished watching Apple's "Spring Loaded" event, during which they announced their new iMacs. Well, the smaller one at least.

And for the first time I found myself not wanting to immediately order one.

ooooh look, orange...
Perhaps it's just because these are the entry-level machines and I really need something with a larger display for my work.  Perhaps it's because the port selection is painfully inadequate for what I need (though this could be overcome by adding a hub or dock).  I don't even find myself getting excited by the colours - perhaps it's that?

Or, more realistically, perhaps I've arrived at a time in my life where need exceeds want.

I mean, I don't need a new computer.  And I don't need a new camera despite Fujifilm's latest 100-megapixel release.  Yes, I want both of these items but have no real need for them.  So, I'm going to wait until I do actually need to replace something.

I wrote about this a while back.  For too long now I've replaced something just because I fell in love with version 2.0 of the said item.  Well, no more.

Not until they release the bigger ones at any rate!

next week: my new iMac!!!
