still all alone and just perfect

A year and a bit ago, just before the first of our lockdowns here in Wales, I was able to make the journey over the Black Mountain in Carmarthenshire towards a tiny hamlet called Trap and take a picture of a distant Carreg Cennen Castle.

You can re-visit that post here if you like, along with the one where I first found the tree by clicking here.

Anyway, while I was there I spotted this lovely, gnarly lone tree growing sideways out of the mountainside and thought that with better conditions it would make for that perfect image.

Well, just this week (erm, the end of March actually) and with lockdown restrictions eased I went to find the little tree again in what would be utterly perfect conditions.  The mountain was shrouded in mist and low cloud making for a really ethereal scene.  If I could actually find it!

After an hour of traversing every little single track, rutted farm track littering the mountainside, it came into view out of the mist.  And I got the perfect image I'd waited over a year to capture.

Fujifilm GFX50R, Fujinon GF 100-200mm f5.6
1/13th of a second at f16, ISO 100
tripod, self-timed release

Shooting the image wasn't straightforward though.  In order for it to work I had to ensure that the branches of the tree didn't overlap any of those on the trees in the background.  This meant constantly having to move an inch or so left, right, up and down until I could get it just so.

Well worth the effort though I hope?
