an unhappy accident

This all gets a bit technical, so look away now if easily geeked out!

My Fujifilm X-T4 camera has two SD card slots.  I set them up as follows:

- Card 1 stores raw still images

- Card 2 stores either back-ups of Card 1 or jpegs if I'm playing around

- Card 2 also stores video.

bloody, bloody, bloody camera...

My camera, and X-T3 before it has always been set up this way and has always, without fail, recorded video to Card 2.

Always.

Last month, a friend and I set about filming a short documentary about a local historical landmark.  After around an hour, my camera announced that its memory card was full. So, I took out card 1 and put it in slot 2.  But it still wouldn't record.  After a few minutes of faffing around and still being unable to film I decided to format Card 1 in case it was faulty in some way.

And hurrah!  It all worked fine and we finished our film.

It was when I got home and tried uploading the footage from my computer that I discovered the camera had for some inexplicable reason recorded the bulk of the footage to Card 1.  The card that I formatted, and in the process lost 80% of the footage we shot.

Oh how I laughed.  NOT.  I felt physically sick.  Why had the camera done this?  I still have no answer.

Anyway, I've now set it up to record whatever it is I'm doing, be that stills or video, to both cards.  Yes I'll halve my recording capacity but I'll have two copies of everything.

And this hard learned lesson will never be repeated.

Watch me harp on about this by clicking on the video below.  It's only 8 minutes or so of your life that you'll never get back, but it makes Dexter and me very happy!  We'd be even happier if you liked or commented on the video, or even subscribed to our channel while you're there :-)
