fill your, well my, boots

I made the short trip to Bracelet Bay in Mumbles on New Year's Eve to make the final image of 2021.

It was an eerie sight, with a thick sea mist obscuring the famous lighthouse, its presence only betrayed by the sound of its high pitched foghorn.

As the tide was rising, I took the necessary precautions and donned my wellington boots, and set up near some rocks - my intention being a to use my Lee "Little Stopper" filter and a long exposure to catch the sweeping motion of the incoming waves.

I was expecting to get wet, just not quite as wet as I did when a wave rushed in going over the top of my wellingtons and filling them up to the brim with ice-cold salt water, sand, shells and seaweed!

But being the true professional I am I soldiered on to get the exact image I wanted.  I waited for another (thankfully not quite as) large wave to sweep in before pressing the shutter button to capture it advancing around the rocks.

Getting back to the car, some afternoon walkers laughed as I emptied what felt like the entire contents of Swansea Bay out of my boots!

  1. When you're a landscape photographer you have to learn to expect (and deal with) these things! Great shot though....so worth it??? ;)
