it's never ending

I am a fan of Apple computers - it's no secret.  I like their form factor and ease of use.  Now while I understand that for many, digging into a computer's BIOS and other inner workings is fascinating, I just want my computer to work for me, not the other way around.

And Apple does do that - there can be no arguments.

I used Windows computers throughout most of my working life and could never get on with it.  Apart from the file system - that I did enjoy.  But the constant raft of updates, bugs and telephone calls to IT support whose answer was always "turn it off and back on" took their toll, and when time came to decide on a system upgrade for home use, the "beige box" went out the window to be replaced by a sleek, aluminium iMac.

But my Windows woes (windwoes - I'll get my coat) didn't end.  As I had a reasonably responsible job, it entailed working from home a fair bit which in turn necessitated use of Microsoft Office to avoid any compatibility issues between files I was working on.

remember these guys?

And I still use it to this day, though I've no idea why.

I've no idea why because it is still incredibly frustrating to use.  While my Apple software products get updated maybe two or three times a year, Office (be that Word or Excel - I use both) updates sometimes twice in a day! It seems that every time I start an Office application it has updated, and I have to go through the restart rigmarole with it.

I really should rely 100% on Apple's own suite of productivity apps, but I've got over two-thousand files created using Office and am loathe to change for fear of some compatibility issue bricking my life's work!

So come on Microsoft, make a product that works and is secure out of the box and that doesn't need updating every time someone in Sierra Leone sneezes.
