a tiny city made of mushrooms

No I haven't been picking and cooking up some dubious fungi, but this week's image is of tens of tiny mushrooms growing on an old, decaying fence post I found when walking near my home recently.

I decided to go back the following day with my tripod and shoot a number of images focused throughout the scene in my camera's viewfinder and then blend them on my computer later.  Well, I didn't blend them, a really clever piece of software called Helicon Focus did all that.

Anyway, I shot a total of forty images, moving the lens's focal point by a hair each time.

The final image looks, to me anyway, like an alien or futuristic city.

And no, I promise I did not eat any of them...
