memory loss

In common with most people in this digital age, I have a number of flash drives, or memory sticks. Call them what you will.

One such drive I used a lot as it had two different USB connections at either end, so it was really useful for transferring stuff between my computing devices. I even named it "Moving Stuff" in my Mac's Finder.

Several weeks ago, I  was using it while in bed one evening and thought to myself that I'd better put it somewhere safe before I lose it.  You can guess where this is going, right?

I lost it.

Thinking that it must have got tossed to one side or the other when the bed was made the next morning I hunted high and low in my bedroom.  I pulled the bed out - nothing.  I looked under my chest of drawers - nothing. Seemingly the device had vanished.  I even thought perhaps Dexter had eaten it!

Anyway, I've just got back from my local hospital after having to have a repeat blood test, put my hand in the pocket of my shorts and...

MEMORY STICK!!

Now, my glee at finding my memory stick was tempered by two things.  Firstly, I'd bought a replacement and secondly, these shorts were clean on and had obviously been through the washing machine.

But to my amazement, the memory stick still functions perfectly.  Testimony then to SanDisk whose memory cards I have relied on in my cameras for many years now.  It's good to know that there are at least some things built to last!

* you can see by the size of the replacement drive that I'm taking no chances with losing it again!  For any tech nerds reading this, I actually made this drive myself, by buying a 500GB NVME SSD and a dual USBA and USBC enclosure.  The whole process of building it took less than a minute

This week's midweek video is a departure from the norm, in that it's not a tech based episode.  Instead I take a short walk and think about the diversity of natural species I've seen on my nature rambles.
